Listen: Doldrums

I gave a Doldrums song one listen, just ONE listen and that was it, before I knew it I had listened to his entire back-catalogue. Say hello to Doldrums, a DJ/producer/singer from Montreal. Whats his real name? I haven't got a clue. All I know is this guys stuff is wickedly catchy and he is a fellow Moog enthusiast putting him on a winner with me. This is so rich in sound that it seems different every time you listen to it.

It began with 'Egypt', then I was listening to 'Copper Girl', then 'I'm Homesick Sitting Up Here in my Satellite'.... You just cant stop! This is electronica so layered, so detailed that it boggles the mind. Throw in on top of all this some throbbing heavy beats and Doldrums own vocals and BANG! my mind combusted. Its like if MGMT were actually good! Its about psychedelic beats and I dont even know how that is supposed to work. Some of the beats are borderline Dubstep territory at the 120 bpm mark, like this for example:

Doldrums is currently touring as guest artist to Canadian counterparts Purity Ring on their European tour. Pair this with the huge popularity of Grimes and we've got a Canadian Electro takeover on our hands.

On paper none of this matches up or sounds in any way appealing so Im afraid you'll just have to try it out for yourself...

The album 'Lesser Evil' is out now. Or better yet, try them out live! Doldrums play with Purity Ring in The Button Factory, Dublin on Nov 29th.
