FAQ: Songwriting and the Internet

Q. Is that technically difficult?

A. Not really, but it depends how computer-literate you are. A good songwriters site can help you with this. At Kiss-it.net, they will do the uploads for you and set it all up. If you want to do your own uploads you may need software for songfile generation and editing (we use cool edit) and for FTP. Again, Kiss-it.net can advise you.

Q. I've heard it's easy to make a website. Can I setup my own website?

A. Of course you can, if you know about website design and construction and all the other related computer stuff. But please be careful because a bad site or a site that loads slowly is not going to help you and will probably have the opposite effect. There's also the very important issues of making your site compatible with the whole range of computers and browsers used around the world, and publicising your site through search engines etc, both of which can take alot of time and effort. Perhaps the best thing to do is to talk to a website design company specialising in music sites (e.g. http://www.kiss-it.net/, greenweb-design.co.uk) and sort out what you can do and what you need them to do.
