You want audience adoration, respect from your peers and the music industry and the chance to keep your name and music in the public psyche for years to come. However, success in the music industry comes from a series of partnerships between musicians and industry. Such partnerships most likely involve a musician exchanging their intellectual property rights for the expertise that enables them to distribute and sell their music whether on or off line.
Dealing with intellectual property rights isn't always straightforward, and a musician needs expert support and information to sign deals with managers, publishers, labels, lawyers, accountants, aggregators, distributors and more during their career.
This Own-It event in collaboration with BPI and British Black Music is aimed specifically at musicians. The seminar aims to be particularly useful for musicians at the beginning of their careers keen to develop a greater understanding of their intellectual property rights in order to make better-informed professional decisions. The industry-leading speakers include Kwaku, founder of the Black Music Congress, Jon Webster from the BPI, Simon Goffe from music publisher and artist management company Heavyweight Management and Laurence Gilmore, music IP specialist at Hamlins law firm.

Jun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!
