iona starr: ilikemusic because... it soothes my soul ;) xFatboy Slim returns with the second single from his critically acclaimed album 'Palookaville'. The frenetic Slash Dot Dash certainly raised some eyebrows. Wonderful Night chills things out a little and succeeds in planting a big smile on your face.
Wonderful Night is one of the album's stand out cuts and features the lyrical prowess of Bay Area rap artist Lateef, who is one half of Latyrx and part of the legendary Quannum Collective. Lyrics about supermodels, mingers and Dave Beckham abound on the album's funkiest tune.
Commercial formats feature a wealth of beats and pieces. Fatboy Slim has remixed Wonderful Night and delivered twice over. The single features both a house mix from Fatboy but also a full-on rock interpretation. Additional remixes are supplied by Brazilian drum 'n' bass maestro DJ Marky and hip hop heavy hitter Chief Xcel. DJ Marky supported Fatboy Slim at the Big Beach Boutique event in Rio while Chief Xcel is a fellow member of the Quannum Collective with Lateef and will be DJing at the Palookaville spectacular at Brixton Academy in November.
The video for Wonderful Night is, as you'd expect for Fatboy Slim, very special indeed. After industry legend Tim Pope directed 'Slash Dot Dash' to fabulous effect, now it is the turn of first time director Jon Watts. Yes, that's right. FIRST time. A huge opportunity / responsibility and he hasn't let himself down. The video must surely be a strong contender for music promo debut of the year. You have been warned! Lateef stars and his transformation as his 'wonderful night' progresses is really something else. Singing In The Rain meets American Werewolf In London. You can watch the video at www.fatboyslim.net.
Fatboy Slim's One Way Ticket To Palookaville tour of the UK has seen Norman Cook pick up his bass guitar and join support band Jonny Quality on stage to perform a handful of tracks from the album. It's the first time ever that Fatboy has performed his music live and the audiences have loved it. Wonderful Night has been a particular live favourite. Watch out for news of more live performances in the coming weeks. The Palookaville roadshow comes to London on the 26th November.
