Chris Clark - Growls Garden EP

At Warp we believe Clark is a primary torch bearer amongst a new generation of artists who continue the vision that Warp was built on, making innovative and boundary pushing electronic music that is difficult to replicate. With every release this belief strengthens and once more he has floored us with his new EP, Growl's Garden.

The jewel in the crown of this promising EP, offering a glimpse into his much anticipated forthcoming album is the eponymously titled lead track Growl's Garden. For the 1st time integrating the use of processed otherworldly vocals bedded with a frosty, crystalline melody, organic analogue riffs are distilled into winter atmospherics. This is music for the outdoors, yet as Chris has road tested, also a devastating dance floor track.

This maritime themed EP with its Nordic sea town titles such as Seaweed and Distant Father Torch, conjures up images of crashing waves and men battling against the elements. Tracks that reflect the steely silver Berlin that Chris wrote the material in, they sample the sounds of boots treading on snow and rocks roughly thrown together, and unusually it is these organic sounds that form some of those urgent bass lines. An earthy ambience pervades throughout the EP and the roughly hewn production creates music whilst futuristic in its use of cold hard machinery, is vintage in sound.
