Ahead of any live dates, the band have been out on the road in style: July saw the band visit US radio stations for interviews and live sessions and this month they're touring virtual hotel chain Habbo Hotel for live webchats with fans. The band will be in Hong Kong on September 8th, recording a new song for the Warchild album. And after three months with the censors, Demon Days finally got a release in China last week.
Throughout all this fevered activity www.gorillaz.com remains the best place to keep in touch with the band, hang out in their bedrooms, mess about with the instruments in the studio and play the fiendishly difficult games - Gorillaz Mah Jong, anyone? It's a very popular place: gorillaz.com racked up an astonishing 10,000,000 page impressions last month.
Reached for comment on Demon Days' astounding success, Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs said,
"The fact that people are buying an album that has got so many influences, and mixtures of music, from African, to hip-hop to rap, dub, bits of Latin - that is gratifying. It just shows that even in a time when the world could be seen to be in conflict, that on one level people are still really open to the sounds, the cultures - just the flavour of other nations, right around the globe."
