Sadie Ama - Fallin
Despite the best efforts of her record company to keep their prize asset secret while she develops, nineteen year old Sadie Ama (real name Mercedes Louise Hall), is impossible to hold back. Since the leak of the song Fallin' to radio, the growth of media interest and radio support has been exponential and unprecedented. It has caught everyone by surprise. Why? Because the word is out - Sadie is the one to watch in 2007.
If you are one of the few who have not heard of this young lady then coming #4 in the BBC Sound of 2007 Poll (a list of the hottest new talent compiled by over 100 key industry figures) will change that. She is the 4th solo female to feature in this influential chart following in the notable footsteps of Joss Stone, KT Tunstall and Corrine Bailey Rae.
Dangerously sweet, it's Sadie's model looks coupled with her cutting edge musical approach that caught the eye of tastemaker and style magazines such as i-D, Dummy and Trace, prior to her signing with Ministry of Sound in the summer of 2006. MTV and RWD also spotted her star quality and recently teamed up to dedicate a mini-documentary on Sadie, championing her as an artist 'About To Blow'. To put this into perspective US superstars Ciara and Chris Brown have also featured.
Hailing from Kilburn, North West London, Sadie was nurtured in a highly musical environment: two greatest influences are her mother, previously a jazz performer, and sister Shola (one of the most successful UK R&B singers). Not content with living in Shola's shadow, Sadie found herself modeling for children's magazines. Her cuteness even bagged her a role as "mini" Mel B in the video for 'Mama' by the Spice Girls. Ever the girls' girl, Sadie once set her heart on one day opening a hair and nail salon.
Until now…. You see, music was always her destiny:
Despite a blossoming talent for singing, and record label offers prompted by her underground anthems 'So Sure' (with Kano) and 'Take Me Away' in 2005, Sadie held back to mature as an artist and singer at her own pace … This wise move proves that now - not only is Sadie the only female to have emerged from the credible UK underground scene, but her silky vocals sit just as naturally on daytime radio. If you are familiar with her early work, think of what you've heard before as the entrée…
