Sylvia Powell: ilikemusic because... It can make me happy yet it can make me feel sad. It helps me remember, but it can also make me forget. Most of all I like music because it makes me feel alive.
James, Maroon 5: ilikemusic because... It is a gateway into the present moment.
Jay Sean: ilikemusic because... It’s the soundtrack to my life.
Hard-Fi: ilikemusic because... what else is there to like?!
Ryan, OneRepublic: ilikemusic because... It is the soundtrack to my life every day.
Ciarran, The Feeling: ilikemusic because... I find it constantly inspiring and it’s a joy to listen to and a joy to play; it really is a huge part of my life.
Alison Moyet: ilikemusic because... No one gets to choose mine for me.
Jo Whiley: ilikemusic because... It makes me laugh and it makes my cry and it gets me out of a stress if I’m in a stress, and, if I’m in a good place then it will make me in a better place. It’s all about the emotion, it’s all about the feeling where music takes you to and what affect it has on you.
Riot! Traffic: ilikemusic because... music is LiFe...and more than..."For me, naivety means being able to enjoy the wonderful things and moments in life without compromising," explains DJ Marcello, creative compiler of Supperclub's latest offering in their Ninesins series - Naivety. "I have tried to put this feeling into this album, in its melodies and the beautiful and positive vocals that embrace life. Always try to see things as through the eyes of an innocent child. Enjoy the things in life. Keep a smile on your face. Celebrate life. You're allowed to!"
A Dutch institution with over thirty years in the DJing and promoting game Marcello might not appear an obvious choice of partner for Supperclub, but after hearing one of his Slowdance CDs - a series of homemade compilations he makes every now and then for his friends - the label were hooked. Less the last songs of a teenage disco, more post-dinner, pre-dancing soundtracks, the Slowdance series focused on slowly getting you in the mood for dancing, gradually nudging listeners towards the dancefloor, building to a climax of foot shuffling and hip-shaking.
It's clear that Marcello has transferred this concept to Naivety, hand-picking two CDs of melodic melancholy, with a Balearic influence straight from the beaches at Sa Trinxa. Opening CD1 with downtempo tracks, including the Edu K remix of Otto feat. Bebel Gilberto's 'Bob', Marcello leads the listener into shimmering laid-back funk of Ta'raach and Ralph Falcon & Victoria Wilson James, before the Latin-tinged strains of Ennio Morricone, as re-worked by Amalgamation Of Sound, make way for the bass of Hot Coins' Norway Men and Aeroplane's Caramellas.
