Then on the Saturday a further 25,000 guests arrived, dressed in their festival finest. Every psychedelic colour was on display: girls in tutus, sequined capes and furry boots, men in fancy dress and sexy sunglasses.
This time it was Radio 1's Judge Jules who took command of the beach stage from where he broadcast his show live. The crowds were at their most worshipful for the mighty Tiesto, for whom they gave their body and souls. If you were in any doubt about him being the most popular DJ in the world they would have been totally dispelled by his awe-inspiring performance.
Just as the numbers swelled, so did the size of the festival which expanded to include a further seven main arenas:
