So there we have it. The 2012 BRIT Awards have spoken. No surprises with Adele's Album of The Year award for 21. Ed Sheeran scored a well deserved double win for Best Male Solo and British Breakthrough. Lana Del Rey gave a timid acceptance speech for International Breakthrough. Bruno Mars rocked a jazz-lounge driven live version of Just The Way You Are, ending in a standing ovation. Rihanna splashed paint everywhere after winning International Female solo and Blur stomped through their hits, 21 years after forming.
2208: Blur finish the evening with one more song, This Is A Low. The stadium ballad from Parklife sees Damon closing his eyes before standing still on the runway and facing the band during Graham's guitar solo. The memories. Damon ends with "Thank you very much. See you in Hyde Park." Oh yes. Yes we will.
2202: Could British music actually get any more British than Parklife?
2159: Damon - "I want to introduce our backbone, Phil Daniels." We know what this means...PARKLIFE!
2157: Song 2. How could they NOT?!
2154: Blur launch into Girls & Boys. Damon stomps across the stage in big red Dr Martens inviting the crowd to sing along.
2152: 21 has sold more in one calendar year than any album ever! Adele arrives to collect her award and is greeted with a huge hug from George. Biggest cheers of the evening by far! Lots of thank yous from Adele. "I'm so, so proud to be British and proud to be in the room with all of you!" She is quickly cut off by presenter James Cordon, who must be working to a television time limit. He introduces Blur....
WINNER: Adele - 21 - MasterCard British Album of the Year
2149: George Michael arrives to present the next award. Following illness late last year, the singer is greeted with huge applause from the crowd.
2143: Blur take to the stage to collect their fifth BRIT Award. Having been around for 21 years, this is a greatly deserved award! Damon takes the mic, unravels a scrumpled piece of paper and lists his thank yous; their families, the men who discovered them 21 years ago, their producers and a long list of a names, before stating, "more than any of those people, I really want to dedicate this award to a very special person. He took us as four completely broke young men and transformed us." He then dedicates the award to Chris Morrison, long term Blur manager.
WINNER: Blur - Outstanding Contribution to Music
2136: Joining David Bowie, Paul Weller, Queen and The Beatles, we get ready for Blur's Outstanding Contribution Award. British actor Ray Winston arrives on stage to introduce the award. The VT basically confirms: Blur are amazing
2134: Rihanna performs We Found Love in chunky boots, tiny white shorts and a ripped, baggy white top. Behind her, three cubed boxes contain dancers splashing coloured paint everywhere. We are soon treated to some ultimate Rihanna swag dance moves, hips, booty and Rihanna's special parts fly everywhere. WIN.
2131: A very nervous Lana arrives in a sloping, strapless bright red dress, timidly stating, "This award, um, means much more to me than you know. And I just want to say that without the support of everyone in this room and everyone in the UK I'd really be lost. Thank you. I love you."
WINNER: Lana Del Rey - International Breakthrough
2129: Collaboration of the night perhaps? Will.I.Am and Rob Brydon arrive to present the next award...
2120: One of the smoothest vocal performances of the evening, Bruno Mars performs a lounge-jazz led version of Just The Way You Are. Horns, break downs and killer high notes. Standing ovation for Bruno!
2118: Ed collects his second award with "Um...yeah. First and foremost I have to thank the fans because they're the ones that voted for this." He then thanks his manager, stating "he's the person that took me from a spotty, chubby ginger teenager to being up here tonight."
WINNER: Ed Sheeran - British Breakthrough Act
2114: The Foo Fighters aren't here to collect the award so drummer Taylor Hawkins appears in a recorded video message. After thanking everyone for the award, he says that for the Foos, the UK is "like our second home. I feel like it's the first place that really got the Foo Fighters, in a big way." Then, addressing fans he states "We love you. We'll be back soon."
WINNER: Foo Fighters - International Group
2111: Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor arrive to present the award for International Group.
2105: Adele performs Rolling In The Deep with a live band. Can't help but think she looks nervous and sounds a little...timid perhaps? Either way, she still receives overwhelming cheers from the crowd and makes performing live look effortless. She has a hard act to follow after her BRIT Awards performance of Someone Like You last year - the performance that began the whirlwind journey of 21...
2102: James Cordon interviews Kylie and asks her who she thinks has the key to longevity, she responds "I think everyone has the potential, but if I had to choose someone, I'd say Adele." A fitting answer, as the stage lights up and our favourite lady Adele, takes to the stage.
2100: Marking their seventh BRIT Award, Coldplay leap up onto the runway between the crowd and walk to collect their award from Jo Wiley and Fun Lovin' Criminal Huey Morgan. Chris Martin takes the mic and opens his acceptance speech with "We've been doing the BRITs since before most of you were born, it was terrible then but it's great now!" before adding "We're having the best time!"
WINNER: Coldplay - British Group
2056: Ed ambles up to the stage to collect his award and picks it up with "I honestly didn't think I'd get this!" He thanks his family, friends, fans and every promoter that's ever booked him before tumbling into "I'm really bad at this!"
WINNER: Ed Sheeran - British Male Solo Artist
2055: Plan B arrives looking very svelte! Ready to announce the next winner...
2054:A video titled Amy Winehouse - In Her Own Words plays. Clips of Amy Winehouse speaking over black and white photographs of her growing up with her voice over, "I didn't really think it was an extraordinary thing to sing. I thought everyone could sing," followed by "I thought I'd be a waitress, or a housewife." RIP Amy. The video finished with Amy saying "Life is short. Do it."
2045: Stop the press! Is that Chris Martin playing piano for Noel Gallagher? Brother number one is storming through the epic What A Life with his High Flying Birds. Music combo! Chris plays his graffiti covered piano. Noel keeps it simple and cool.
2041: Rihanna arrives to collect her award looking incredible, in a very low cut silver dress. After thanking radio DJs, music video channels and her label, she thanks her fans with, "At times when I feel misunderstood, my fans always remind me it's ok to be myself and I'll never forget you for that"
WINNER: Rihanna - International Female Solo Artist
2040: Formula one driver Jenson Button arrives to present the next award...
2039: In matching grey suits and with very well cut hair, One Direction jump onstage with looks of disbelief, passing the mic between them, it seems there's only one set of people they want to thank, "This award is for the fans, we would be absolutely nowhere without them."
WINNER: One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful - British Single
2035: Oh! White trousers, white tee, black jacket. It can only be, Tinie Tempah shouting 'BRIT Awards 2012 baby' as he swaggers on stage ready to announce the next winner...
2027: In a green t-shirt and jeans, Ed Sheeran does what he does best. Performing a gentle, acoustic version of Lego House with his sticker-covered guitar. Complete silence in the arena.
WINNER: Emeli Sandé - Critics Choice
2025: Rizzle Kicks join Ollie on stage! Red glitter and heart motifs dance across the packed O2 Arena.
2023: Ollie Murs proves his X-Factor time was just a training ground for live performances on a bigger scale. Performing Heart Skips A Beat his voice sounds great, he's packing in the standard cheeky grins and is joined on stage by women dressed in bright red leotards with tiny cage skirts!
2021: In a velvet black suit, Bruno Mars arrives to collect his award with, "This award is almost bigger than me!" Before assuring his fans he'll be back with more music soon, "The fans, I love you! I'll be back soon with the second album!"
WINNER: Bruno Mars - International Male Solo Artist
2018: Adele bounds onstage and greets Kylie with "You look stunning! I feel like a drag queen next to you!" before accepting her award, thanking her label for letting her be the artist she wants to be, then saluting the other nominees with, "To all the other girls, thank you!"
WINNER: Adele - British Female Solo Artist
2015: Kylie enters in a strapless midnight blue gown to Can't Get You Out Of My Head, ready to present the award for British Female Solo Artist.
2009: Florence & The Machine perform No Light No Love. Surrounded by female dancers dressed in flowing white gowns, Florence wows with the power of her voice live. Eventually standing in the middle of the audience on a small square platform surrounded by beams of light reaching to the ceiling, she runs to the main stage before finishing the track draped between her dancers.
2005: Video of Adele plays, with the singer talking about her huge selling record 21. In her voice over she says she'll never record such a personal record again. At the end of the clip we see Adele sat at a table next to comedian Jimmy Carr.
2000: Coldplay open this evening's award show at the O2 Arena with Charlie Brown, which according to the band was the first song they recorded from Mylo Xyloto. Performing on a stage in the middle of the audience, smoke and lasers surround the band as they open the awards.
