On the 25th February 2012, 51 year old Kevin Upchurch from Bexleyheath, Kent, will sell his record collection. Far from ordinary, the collection contains every number one single from the UK charts since they began in 1952.
Collected over 39 years, his 1,100 hits spanning vinyl, cassette, CD and MP3 are expected to generate a five figure sum. The collection will go on sale at Omega Auctions in Stockport, Manchester, on February 25th.
The decision to sell his records came when Kevin found himself in need of more living space after recently moving his elderly mother in to his small Kent flat. Starting with the UK's first official number one, Al Martino’s Here In My Heart and ending with Rihanna's We Found Love, which reached number one in September 2011, the collection will soon find itself in a brand new home.
Here at I Like Music, we're all wishing Kevin the best of luck with the sell. We know how much work and effort goes in to building and maintaining any record collection because it's something we do too.
Sat inside our office is the I Like Music collection. We've got an awful lot of music and like Kevin, we also have all the number one singles since the charts began in 1952...
A while back we were asked to source the number one single on the day someone was born which we did. This got us thinking. And creating.
We ended up making the Soundtrack of Your Life - soundtrack.ilikemusic.com
It's the part of our site where you can create and send an e-Album - a playlist of music to listen to, sent directly to any recipient's inbox. Just enter their date of birth into the site and from our collection, we generate a playlist of every number one hit from all of their birthdays since they were born. Have a listen, then send them the playlist of the full, original songs by the original artists and they can listen as much as they like!
A lot of people like to send the Soundtrack of Your Life as a birthday card alternative, which we think is a rather nifty idea.
Have a play, send a few, let us know what you think!
