The last twelve months have been phenomenal for Fulham-born rapper Example. Despite support from big industry bods like Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley and Mike Skinner, Example’s first album made virtually no impact on the mainstream, so when he returned with second album Won’t Go Quietly and hit the number 4 spot on the album charts it was like a bullet out of nowhere.
With singles like Last Ones Standing it’s no wonder that his year has been such a rags-to-riches story. A pulsing, pseudo-house beat underscores dramatic, stabbing synths over which Example raps about youthful hedonism before the infinitely sing-able chorus kicks in.
The video belongs to the oddball but ever-entertaining mini-genre; the ‘80s cop film parody. Here are some of our favourite moments:
