Far from a stale hulk of rotting flesh, Gangrene is in fact the fresh collaboration between producer/emcee The Alchemist and west coast rapper Oh No. The pair have offered up the first taster from their album Gutter Water in the form of Take Drugs. The album is set for release on 10th January 2011 with both taking the reigns on production duties.
A quick flick through The Alchemist's Hip Hop CV should quell any dubious minds; having developed his skills making beats for Mobb Deep and Jadakiss early 2000, he went on to become Eminem's touring DJ and counts his production credits amongst the work of Lil' Wayne and Nas. Oh No, meanwhile, grew up within the respected Stonesthrow, producing tracks for the label also home to his notorious brother Madlib.
Mark Gutter Water down in your calendar; beat experimentation comes courtesy of vintage equipment while featured artist credits include Raekwon, Evidence, Roc C, MED, Twins Gambino, Planet Asia and Fashawn. Plus, the record finds its release on Decon records. A label with a big, honest heart, Decon only signs 50/50 deals with their artists. Following the success of their first feature film, 2003's One Big Trip, Decon offer strategic marketing, video production and a multi-media experience, while artists are left to supply the rest. Gangrene join an already impressive roster including Dilated Peoples, Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5, Chali 2na, Aceyalone, Evidence, Rakaa, RJD2, Lyrics Born and 88-Keys.
