Not technically a band that could be categorised as ‘dance’, Houses nonetheless strayed into dance territory once or twice on their debut album All Night. The song Reds is once such instance, its hazy synths, lingering piano chords and distant vocals floating over a bed of funky bass and four-to-the-floor kick drums. It’s a collision of indie and - appropriately enough – house, and while it wouldn’t pass muster in the club, it’s a pretty perfect soundtrack to a lazy summer’s evening.
The video, on the other hand, goes for a completely different vibe, opting for a far colder aesthetic than the song might suggest, with a city made of ice rising out of a pool of water before melting once again. It’s a beautiful set of visuals, made even more impressive by the fact that it was filmed in a two-car garage, lit by nothing but old TVs and Christmas lights, and without the use of any CGI at all.
