Sara Jade and Nadia Dahlawi are now known for their rather riveting club nights across London and their fiercly passionate and independent record label of the same name; Young & Lost Club. Best friends since they were twelve, they convinced Pete Doherty (back in the early days...) to contribute to their fanzine, launched a Rough Trade showcase club-night during their half-term breaks and then, eventually, formed Young & Lost Club. Named by Sara following a 2004 launch party in Soho for Blue Boy, Vincent Vincent and the Villains’ debut single, the parties have grown and quite rightly, so has the impact of Young & Lost on the London indie scene. Sara says;
“We were turning twenty, and we didn’t want to leave our teenage years without feeling we’d accomplished something. A record label felt like the next step. We always wanted it to be like a real club; that people could feel they were a part of, and we wanted to do a good old-fashioned singles club. At the time, there were hardly any small labels around that were doing everything on seven-inch single.”
This year Sara and Nadia celebrate the fifth anniversary of Young & Lost Club. Not only are they holding a special frock wearing, toe-tapping, quiff inducing anniversary party on the 1st September at the Village Underground, but they’re also releasing a rather special, record collection enhancing, two-disc, singles compilation.
The compilation features 35 singles, whittled down from the 50 singles Young & Lost have put out so far:
