Boy Better Know’s Jammer released his album Jahmanji in July 2010, following a series of well received mixtapes. Released on Big Dada Records, the hip hop imprint of independent London label Ninja Tune, Jammer kicked off proceedings with the massive tune 10 Man Roll (video below). Taken from the album is Jammer’s latest single Bad Mind People featuring Lickle J and Newham Generals. Produced by Skepta, I Like Music caught up with the Boy Better Know king pin earlier this year to ask about the plans for the crew in 2010;
This is the year that they're all establishing themselves as individual artists so there are no tag-alongs in the crew when the album comes out. Everyone will be known as an artist in their own right. 2010 is the year that everybody gets themselves a platform. We're working on a Boy Better Know album bit by bit as we speak. We must have about six tunes for it, so it'll just be a case of finishing it up when everyone's got their own album out the way.
Following Skepta’s lead we’re keen to appreciate Jammer in his own right. Bad Mind People is a thick slice of reggae inspired rhythms awash with a deep UK grime twist. Darker and less commercial than the output of other Boy Better Know anthems, the track jumps with the infectious production of Skepta while Jammer and Newham Generals consider the negative attitude of haters, all held together by Lickle J’s sing a long chorus.
Jammer has been rolling forward as a fully fledged member of Boy Better Know for over a year, appearing live with the crew dressed only in his pyjamas...! An original MC and producer from London's Grime scene, Jammer (also known as The Murkle Man) started out in the 187 Crew and went on to work with countless Grime artists, produced the hit Take You Out, recorded the club track The Murkle Man and is responsible for creating Lord Of The Mics 1 and its successor Lord Of The Mics 2. His cousin and fellow Boy Better Know member Camalot (aka C-Gritz) will release his debut album on Big Dada in 2011. Stay tuned in: www.bigdada.com
