Klashnekoff

Before grime went supernova, the finest emcees in the land plied their trade in the hip-hop game. Chief among them was Ricochet Klashnekoff, founder of the hugely respected Terra Firma crew. Six years ago his debut album, The Sagas Of…, brought him to widespread attention, though three years later the follow up, Lionheart Tussle With The Beast divided fans and critics alike. With a further three years gone, K-Lash now returns with his new effort. Going by the name Back To The Sagas, the album sees several changes since Lionheart…, and the start of the album features a song also called Back To The Sagas that fills us in on what’s happened in the intervening period.

Over a bed of dramatic strings and a marching beat K-Lash describes splitting with his label, how circumstances conspired against Lionheart…, building things back up only to have fellow crew member Kyza walk out on himself, Skriblah and Terra Firma, and his eventual decision to take things ‘back to the sagas’.

With an axe to bury and the lyrical dexterity to do it to devastating effect, the return of Klashnekoff might well signal a revival in the fortunes of UK hip-hop at large.
