Royal Republic

In a fortnight’s time Sweden’s Royal Republic are going to be kicking down the door and forcing their way into the party with their debut album We Are The Royal. Brought together by a love of The Hives, Danko Jones and Metallica, their brand of punchy, angular rock is an accurate concoction of all of those influences, and as a result is as adrenaline-fuelled and punchy as it is danceable.

Paving the way for the imminent arrival of their full-length is this video, for the album track Full Steam Spacemachine. A far cry from the stripped-back, one-take simplicity of their last video, Tommy Gun, Full Steam Spacemachine is a mini sci-fi epic, starring the band as both a crew of aliens frothing at the mouth and threatening to attack the earth, and the handle bar moustache-sporting heroes hired to avert the impending disaster.

The tune is a full-throttled romp, morphing from scuttling, funky licks to enormous chords, Hetfield-esque throaty vocals from lead singer Adam Grahn, and a gang shout-along from the rest of the band. Light-hearted but heavy-hitting, it’s rock that’s perfect to party to.
