A kissable selection of gentle sound waves awash with distilled harmonies and subtle extra-terrestrial inspired electronics make up Persona, track one from Superhumanoids six track EP Urgency.
Slipping easily alongside the wealth of 60’s inspired, kaleidoscopic, organic pop that has taken the 2010 indie scene by storm, Superhumanoids offer little in the way of super-originality. However their LA heritage, bedroom-grown formation and full recording and production credits for the Urgency EP, mark them out as genuine and worthy contenders for your rather precious ear-time.
Frontman Cameron Parkins blends a confident Morrissey tinged finesse with a sleepy melancholic ache, stepping quietly into falsetto mid-way through the track to deliver swirling howls of dizzy emotion. Heavily backed by the ethereal vocals of Sarah Chernoff, the result is the perfect balance of sensual, finger-tip touched desperation, with elements of urgency heightened through the gradual expanse of layered sound, rather than over-worked vocal delivery.
Urgency EP is released on independent label Oh! Inverted World and also accompanied by an absolutely fantastic music video, directed by Eli Gunn-Jones.
