Toddla T

Debut albums don’t come much better than Toddla T’s Skanky Skanky. Released in 2009 to virtually universal praise, its blend of everything from electro and house to garage and dancehall was not only bold and adventurous, but damn good fun to boot. His profile has continued to soar ever since, and anticipation for his second album has been growing consistently. Now, finally, the first trickle of news has been released; the album will be called Watch Me Dance, it will be released in August, and it will feature names like Skream, Ms Dynamite, Donaeo and Ross Orton.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, Toddla is about to release the album’s first single, entitled Take It Back. Featuring the dulcet tones of r&b legend Shola Ama and a brief verse by Roll Deep’s J2K, it fixes a sweet vocal melody to a gently rolling jungle beat in a combination that sounds like it’s straight out of the early nineties. The video sees a group of kids setting up a short-lived pirate radio that Toddla, Shola and J2K all drop by before the police bust it up.
