Tom Clarke from The Enemy launches NEXTBiGTHING for all unsigned bands

A few months ago we sat down with The Enemy to talk about the release of their third album Streets In The Sky and during our chat, it became clear front man Tom was unsettled about the current music scene.

Perhaps that isn't too surprising. The Enemy arrived on a wave of British guitar band success in 2006 and since then, guitar music has all but disappeared from the charts...

"When we were doing really well there was so much guitar music that the market was kind of saturated. When that happens you get really competitive. Guitar music is pretty much the only genre that bickers among itself. When you get guitar bands that pull together... look at the shows we did with Reverend & The Makers, Kasabian and Oasis. That was a bunch of guitar bands saying “let’s stop competing and put on the best show in the world,” and people loved it."

Something was bubbling under the surface even then. Heaps of new bands were getting in contact with Tom via twitter and he was doing everything he could to support them; "On twitter every day I get so many unsigned bands making contact; I don’t care if it pisses people off, I retweet every single one of them. Everyone starts there, you just need a break."

A few months later and Tom sent us a message to introduce the NEXTBigTHING project...

Unsigned bands of all genres are invited to get in touch via the NEXTBigTHING twitter page. Tom and his team are listening to ALL the music sent through. If they like it, they are ready to provide the bands with everything they need to kick start a career and build a profile; use of their recording studio, video editing facilities, online marketing, radio exposure, national press, access to backline and instruments...

We called up Tom to find out more about the project. Listen to our conversation below...

If you're an unsigned band or artist looking to build up your profile or in need of some support, tweet NEXTBiGTHING with links to your music...
