Sam, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly: ilikemusic because... Music is a special thing that is not like anything else in the world. You might argue that you can translate emotions through films and through books but anyone can make music, whether that be humming or singing along to the radio, it’s something that gives enjoyment and positivity to many people.
Rob X: ilikemusic because... it puts me in the mood...for anything i feel like!
Dave: ilikemusic because... Without it there wouldnt be a Global Gathering
Sylvia Powell: ilikemusic because... It can make me happy yet it can make me feel sad. It helps me remember, but it can also make me forget. Most of all I like music because it makes me feel alive.
Aaron, The Delays: ilikemusic because... It makes everything seem like an incredible film. And it does - it actually does! hahaha! I told the truth and everything....hahaha!
Leon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
cherylyn emery: ilikemusic because... it makes me happy even when im sad
Rob Cremona: ilikemusic because... Cool laid back soul, atmospheric instrumentals and the occasional gospel choirs to lift my soul.Conor and Daniel from The Thrills, Andy and Bjorn from Razorlight, Minnie Driver, Jamelia and Dermot O'Leary showed their support of Make Trade Fair at the press conference. With all artists providing their services for free, and all ticket proceeds going to Oxfam and the Make Trade Fair campaign, they spoke about the need to raise awareness about these issues.
"Musicians have a great platform and position to educate and encourage those taking an interest in what's going on globally. I don't think many kids know that poverty is one of the most preventable issues in the world," said Minnie.
Minnie herself travelled to Cambodia and Thailand with Oxfam in 2004 to visit women textile workers.
"To see some of these 17 year olds in Cambodia living in extraordinary poverty to make clothes that we all wear, and nobody is looking out for them and they've not had a voice, until now," she added. "Apathy is the greatest reason for doing anything."
"The people at Oxfam never stop trying to raise awareness and draw attention to these incredible causes that go over our heads most of the time."
