"We're not here to push our political views, but we are here because we believe in it, and hopefully we can inspire others to believe in the cause too. I didn't know anything about the fair trade issue until it was explained to me, so hopefully we can
do the same."
WHY MAKE TRADE FAIR?
Because A BILLION PEOPLE LIVE ON LESS THAN ONE DOLLAR A DAY!
Because if poor countries increased their share in world trade by just 1%, the income produced could lift 128 million people out of poverty!
Because international trade rules are blatantly unfair and keep millions of people in poverty, and because of the way the world trade works, their governments can't do a thing to stop it.
Because European Union subsidies encourage the practice of dumping, which prevents farmers in poor countries from earning a living.
Because some of the clothes you're wearing were probably made by someone who earns less than $1 a day.
Because prices paid to coffee farmers have fallen by 70% since 1997, costing exporters in poor countries $8 billion.
