Fall Out Boy - Live Review - O2 Arena

Those who labelled Fall Out Boy as 'just another emo band' have been proven wrong time and time again. This Grammy Award-nominated foursome tore up London's O2 Arena earlier this month and Sej Davé (along with 20,000 other screaming fans) decided to see one of the greatest pop-punk bands in recent history.

Hailing from Wilmette, Illinois, Fall Out Boy achieved moderate independent success after forming in 2001. It wasn't until 2005, and the release of From Under the Cork Tree, that the words 'Sugar, we're going down' were permanently imprinted on musical society. From Under the Cork Tree has since gone on to achieve double platinum status and the band have been going from strength to strength ever since.

Fall Out Boy literally explode on to the stage in an upsurge of fire and smoke. The stage in the O2 Arena may be big but these boys have no problem filling the gaps; and, with an over-whelming stage presence, it becomes increasingly hard not to become competently mesmerised.

Collaborating with musical gods like Debbie Harry and Elvis Costello, Folie ŕ Deux is the band's fifth studio album and was released in December last year. In its debut week, the album sold over 150,000 copies in the United States alone. The band are currently in the midst of their global Believers Never Die Part Deux tour to promote the new album and, with the band playing several new songs including recent singles I Don't Care and America's Suitehearts, it's obvious that Folie ŕ Deux is the next chapter in the FOB story and a must-own for any fan.

Back to the O2 Arena, however, said fans were going utterly ballistic for the band, with Fall Out Boy's on stage antics and ridiculously catchy sing-along songs having earned them a huge following. From the Mexican waves in the stands to the sea of faces in the crowd, there wasn't a person there who wasn't moving to the music.

With the MySpace generation backing them all the way, Fall Out Boy are set to be in the public eye for a while yet. And as long as they keep providing us with pop-punk melody soaked tunes, we will continue to dance, dance!
