Five O’Clock Heroes and Agyness Dean by Sacha Whitmarsh
The Five O'Clock heroes are an Anglo-American hybrid. Antony and Sam are originally from Northampton and Croydon respectively. Like Agyness the band are now happily living and working in New York. But last summer they spent a few months based in Amsterdam, rehearsing new stuff and playing a few European festivals. Sam shudders as he recalls the time: "Oh my God (kind of sheepish) I lost my mind!" "We'd been on tour for a long time and then we were hanging out in Amsterdam. And I just lost my mind. I don't know (checks with Antony) can I really say why I lost my mind?" …. "We just used to get so fucked up!" Antony interjects "I thought it would be a good idea but it WASN'T a good idea because we put ourselves through quite a hard time mentally. He (Sam) went mad." To which Agyness gently smiles and says sleepily "I think we've all gotta have a few mad stages."
