Herve

The latest single to be released through Herve’s Cheap Thrills label is his ubiquitous remix of the seminal Primal Scream track Come Together. The original was nestled in the middle of the band’s landmark album Screamadelica, and its ten minute long synthesis of gospel, dub and the funky indie typical of the Madchester movement was an exemplar of the genre-blending new direction that the band had taken.

Herve picked up the classic track last year and turned it into a huge, next-generation acid house anthem that you will almost certainly have heard at some point in recent months, but despite being everywhere it had only had a very limited release. Now that changes, with a full release of the track and – most interestingly – a clutch of remixes. As well as re-imaginings from Steve Smart & WestFunk, Doorly and C.R.S.T., drum and bass stalwart DJ Fresh has worked his magic on the track in the form of his Future Jungle Mix.

Fresh takes the central organ sample and vocal hook, speeds them up and - as the name suggests - throws some jungle breaks underneath. He’s not content to leave it there though, and the ‘future’ part of the title comes courtesy of some filthy, oscillating dubstep synths and a half-speed breakdown over which they ooze. The track keeps you on your toes by slipping between these two styles throughout its length, getting your feet moving and rattling your ribcage in equal measure.
