James Blunt and Corinne Bailey Rae Lead Brit Pack With Five Grammy Nominations

James Blunt is leading the British nominations for the 49th Grammy Awards, with nominations in five categories, including best new artist, record of the year, song of the year for smash hit, You're Beautiful and best male pop vocal performance. Corinne Bailey Rae is shortlisted in three categories.

Other British artists nominated for Grammys include KT Tunstall, Imogen Heap, The Pet Shop Boys, Sting, David Gilmour and UB40. In the Best New Artist category, Corinne faces competition from James Blunt, Chris Brown and American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood.

Says James Blunt of the nominations, "The Grammys is a pretty phenomenal institution ... so to have my name associated with it is a great honour."

Leading the way overall is Mary J. Blige who's been shortlisted for eight Grammys. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have six nominations, and the Dixie Chicks have five. Beyonce, Bryan-Michael Cox, Gnarls Barkley, Israel Houghton, TI, and Justin Timberlake each have four nominations

The awards will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on 11 February.
