Klaxons Win 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize

Klaxons have won the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize, despite strong competition from bookies favourites, Bat For Lashes and Amy Winehouse. Klaxons beat off competition from the hotly tipped ladies and previous winners The Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal to collect the £20,000 prize money and award.

Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes won over the audience with her hauntingly beautiful performance of 'Horse And I' from her 'Fur & Gold' album, while Amy Winehouse showcased her stunning voice and reminded everyone about her music (having been tabloid fodder of late) by performing an incredible rendition of Love Is A Losing Game.

The very drunk Klaxons took to the stage to collect their award but their mic skills on accepting the award left a lot to be desired as they were barely audible. Their emotion was clear to see however, as they hugged and cried after leaping to their feet on hearing Jools Holland announce them as the winners.

Jules later handed the £20,000 cheque to the band who said, ""We thought we deserved to win this. Nothing makes it better than ever body being on the same page and being behind us."
