Wherever you find Pulled Apart By Horses, you will find mayhem. Whenever they wield pick and stick the noise they create and the energy they conjure is guaranteed to turn a room of respectable members of society into a sweaty pit of flailing limbs. Gigs have frequently ended in injury, and even in hospital trips, but the boys still choose not to learn their lesson, and toning-down is not an option. The song with which they close these carnivals of chaos is I Punched A Lion In The Throat, which they will unleash on the world in single form on March 7th.
First things first; you could not ask for a better title for a rock song than I Punched A Lion In The Throat. It is bellicose, boastful, blasé, completely unapologetic and just plain cool. Musically, the song lives up to the promise of its name, its succession of frenzied riffs tumbling over one another before cutting out to allow singer Tom Hudson to make his eponymous confession in a curiously offhand manner. Having impressed his deed upon us a couple of times the guitars roar back to life and his bandmates joyfully echo his tale of daring. When they feel they’ve made their point sufficiently they celebrate with one and half minutes of volume-to-eleven guitars and the repeated mantra “ultimate power, maximum life!”
Rock and fucking roll.
