In between the two Lilac Time periods Duffy would release 3 solo albums. In 1993, aided by violin virtuoso (and neighbour) Nigel Kennedy, he released Music In Colors. In 1995 with Mitch Easter and The Velvet Crush he recorded the Duffy album and I Love My Friends in 1998 again with Stephen Street. During this time he was briefly press-ganged by the burgeoning 'Britpop' movement even though he was living a recording in the U.S. In keeping with the 'spirit of the time' he started Me Me Me with Alex James and Justin Welch, their only single made the top twenty in 1996. He began to be heralded as a 'Great British song-writer' national treasure status beckoned.

As something of a rather successful footnote, Duffy would also produce and co-write Robbie Williams' 2005 album Intensive Care which has sold over 8 million copies worldwide.

He is married and lives in Cornwall.
