  • AnastasiaAnastasia: ilikemusic because... It makes your feelings tangible - makes them into sounds and words - and makes you realise that you are not alone. It's the collective mind of the human race.
  • Kevin MichaelKevin Michael: ilikemusic because... I’ve been singing my entire life. I cannot go without listening to it or singing for a day. I wake up to it, I go to sleep to it, I am music.

Stereo MCs Timeline

1985
The Stereo MC's formed in London. Rob Birch and Nick Hallam got together and formed the Gee Street Label to promote their music - Rob B's rhymes and vocals teamed with the production/DJ skills of Nick. Gee Street soon signed a distribution deal with the 4th & Broadway Label based in New York. They released a series of singles and continued working on their debut album.

1989
33-45-78 was released, the debut album from the Stereo MCs. It was a raw document for its time. Spliced beats and elementary production laid the foundations of a sound that gave British kids that were listening to the likes of Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions, a native source that they could relate to and something that spoke directly to them about their own lives.

1990
The follow-up album titled Supernatural was released. From it came the single Elevate My Mind which saw the Stereo MCs become the first British band to hit the US pop single charts with a dance infused Hip-Hop track which channeled the Acid-House vibe into its melting pot. In the same year they also released a self titled EP released on Island Records and written, produced and composed by themselves.
