leah + melissa: ilikemusic because... its sickAt last year's Mobo awards, the name of one red-hot R&B singer was on everyone's lips, the name we're talking about here is Terri Walker, not another glittering star from stateside but from up the road in North London and very firmly announcing her arrival with her scintillating debut album, Untitled. Terri was up there with four nominations - the same number, in fact, as her American contemporaries.
Terri was Britain's best-kept secret. Everyone in the business quite rightly raved about this blistering new talent - there was her album again, nominated for the Mercury Music prize - but somehow the general public hadn't appraised themselves of one of the best singers to emerge in a decade.
Now all that is about to change. Terri has collaborated with the talents of the great Danes Soulpower and hip-hop/R&B producers Copenhaniacs to produce a follow-up that is destined to propel her full-throttle, full-of-emotion voice into the consciousness of the public as well as the critics. This time, we'll know exactly who Terri Walker is.
"A lot of people didn't really know where to put me," says Terri now. The trouble was, her first album was so mature, no one could quite believe it could have come from a singer so young. "I was 23 but everybody thought I was about 90 the way they were going on!" Terri exclaims.
