8. When The Lights Go Out In London
Tim: Everyone thought it was about the bombs… but it was written in Palm Springs, believe it or not. I like it because it's got a great punchy Rickenbacker bassline."
Martin:"It's about coming back stronger…what's happened in the last three years… Same with Dead Man's Eyes' … There's a resilience there that's pure Charlatans."
9. The Architect
Tim: "It's quite Beach Boys-y, but with a dark undertow. the Theremin sounds quite spooky, like Casper the Friendly Ghost!"
10. Glory Glory
Tim: "It's yeah. It's Gram Parsons' $1000 Dollar Wedding vibe! 'Glory Glory' is about going into an abusive marriage. I wanted it to be based on Gram Parson's wedding, a wedding that didn't happen. Mark wrote the melody."
11. Sunset & Vine
Martin: "It's got a great bassline and keyboard riff like a harpsichord. When we presented it to the band, we needed somewhere to put it and the end of the album was the perfect place. It sounds perfect at five or six in the morning, if anyone wants to try it out."
'Simpatico' is released on 17th April 2006, preceded by the single 'Blackened Blue Eyes' on 3rd April 2006.
The Charlatans are:
