REVIEW: Violens & Chairlift - Never Let You Go

Violens & Chairlift

Jorge Elbrecht of Violens and Caroline Polachek of Chairlift have together developed a new approach to song-writing. You take a video by another artist, watch it with the sound muted, and write lyrics that seem to sync with what you’re seeing on the screen, then you write some music that fits with the lyrics you’ve come up with and the look of the video. They’ve called it Sgin-ing, and while you’re first instinct might be to ask “why?” or to snort derisively at the pretension of the whole exercise, watch the below video of Justin Bieber’s Never Let You Go Sginned before you judge.

Not only is that a vast improvement on the original, you can’t deny the cheap thrills to be had from seeing Justin Bieber appearing to sing the words “you stupid slut.” Do you kiss your mother with that mouth young man?

Check here for the new lyrics in their entirety, so you can sing along with Justin. All together now…
