Role: Music Supervisor
"I play musical saw, bass guitar and percussion in the orchestra. I guess you could say I'm Damon's music quality controller. I have several favourite music moments but it would have to be either the Living Sea Aria which happens underwater. I love playing saw on that! The uniqueness of this production comes from this incredible 'East meets West' tribe of creative artists, performers and musicians. The Albarn, Hewlett and Shi Zheng combo is also unique! One of the biggest challengers was the actual bringing together of all the elements and making the whole piece live and breathe as an ensemble. Prior to Monkey I'd spent six years playing with The Pogues and then was Tom Waits' Musical Director on the Black Rider for two years."

"Before Monkey I was a full time student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. With Monkey Damon brought a new revolution of music and stage show. The biggest challenge for me is to translate the show. I use my mother language through my performance and I hope to have Western audiences understand Chinese culture."
