Frank Turner

Hi everyone.

My name is Frank Turner, I'm a country singer of sorts from Winchester, England. I grew up with punk rock music.

Here's a playlist I threw together - I tried to include some classics, and then quite a lot of what I'm listening to right now, whether it's new artists or just people who are new to me.

Frank Turner Playlist

Frank Turner Track

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down by The Band is almost the greatest rock song ever written for me. I got into The Band via Bob Dylan, like most people, but they might actually edge out Bob in my affections these days. This song is so emotive, but it's about a leftfield subject matter. It's historical but it's not dry. And musically, it's just majestic.

Frank Turner Album

It's All Crazy It's All False by Mewithoutyou is endlessly inventive, surprising, vivid and breathtaking.

"I Like Music because...it's my entire life." Frank Turner

ILM: Can you give us a little insight into your current music making process? How do tracks typically come to be? What are the biggest highlights / hurdles when you're making your music?

Frank Turner: I'm making a new album right now. I've finished writing it - a process about which I have little to say, it just kind of happens naturally for me, and I try not to force it or indeed examine it too closely. Right now, I'm working on the arrangements with my band, The Sleeping Souls, and later we'll get into the studio to record it.

ILM: Out of all the artists / bands / musicians you've seen live, which will you never forget and why?

Frank Turner: There are many to choose from, but I'd probably say Godspeed You Black Emperor. I've probably seen them more than any other band (that I haven't toured with). They're incredible.
