I remember when I first heard this song; it was given away in a free Kerrang CD sampler. It was a track that immediately connected to me on many levels. Initially there was this raw energy that grabbed hold of me, shook my bones and sent tingles down my spine. It retained a sense of song writing that was missing from bands of the same ilk I was listening to in that era. I felt as though Daryl Palumbo meant every word that he was saying, his heartfelt vocals were juxtaposed perfectly against heavy and angular guitar riffs which were at times bludgeoning and at others serenely melodic. The song was infectious to the point where I would listen to it on repeat for weeks afterwards. There was a band that I had created in my head, that I wanted to hear, and nobody had come close until I heard this song. It blew me away!

What I love about Cursive and Tim Kasher is his ability to throw himself into his songs in a way that few people can do. Sometimes, to convey emotion, bands just scream their way through songs, and that can be effective, but emotional dynamics are amazingly important and Cursive are a band that create a mood almost as soon as their songs start. My favourite track, The Lament of Pretty Baby, was the first song I heard from the album (my second Cursive record), it made the hairs on my body stand on end. The whole album is centred around these two characters 'Sweetie' and 'Pretty Baby' and their relationship. Apparently the album mirrors Kasher’s own personal experiences having gone through a divorce, so the songs are pretty intense with heavily poetic and metaphorical lyrics which I find interesting as a songwriter myself. I often listen to this record in cycles because it flows so well and never becomes repetitive and for a concept record that's sometimes very hard to pull off. I think it's Cursive’s finest album and is certainly my favourite. The Ugly Organ comes a close second.

Radiohead is a band I've always loved and admired. Starting out as an alternative rock band they carved their way through the ninety's with their energetic, inventive and original music. After their hugely successful album OK Computer the band were close to splitting up. Instead of calling it a day they took a new musical direction, which in my opinion gave birth to some of their best work. Pyramid Song was the first single off their 2001 album Amnesiac. The song washes over you with a sad and ghostly vibe and I think the video does a great job of imparting that to you.
