With a decidedly varied outing, one of pop's finest and freshest names brings together an Alex Metric remix, recently deceased rock n soul legend Solomon Burke, guitar-toting duo Black Keys and a video mash-up of Star Wars and brit-flic gangster romp Snatch. We proudly introduce...the Lauren Pritchard Guest Edit of I Like Music.
Track
Artist: Alex Metric Track: Phoenix (Alex Metric Remix) Release: Out Now Label: Co-Operative Music
My guitarist turned this on a few weeks ago in the splitter van. As soon as we got to about 0:58 I was obsessed and I’ve listened to it every day since. Since then I’ve been spending time listening to this on repeat as well as other of his choons. My other favourites are Beastie Boys - Sabotage, Bloc Party - One More Chance and Salt Skin by Ellie Goulding. Maybe he’ll do a remix for lolo pritch one day?!
Album
Artist: Solomon Burke Album: The Very Best Of Solomon Burke Release: 1998 Label: Rhino
Solomon Burke passed away a few weeks ago while on a plane that was headed for Amsterdam. He was due to perform but never made it there. I always knew the song Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, but I didn’t know anything else. So I went to HMV and bought the Best Of to explore and get to know the voice and man that was Solomon Burke. He had 22 children, 91 grandchildren. If that doesn’t make you a legend then his vocals on I’m Hanging Up My Heart For You and Cry To Me keep him firmly in place as one of the greatest voices that we’ll ever be blessed enough to hear.
Video
Artist: The Black Keys Track: Tighten Up Release: Out Now Label: WMG
I love the Black Keys. I love everything about them. I’ve listened to them for years now. Their song You’re the One is in my top ten of greatest tracks of all time. I also own all the DVDs that you can find of them. My favourite thing about them is that despite the fact that their music is so rich, soulful and thoughtful they seem to make videos to keep them real and human and funny. I love this video because it translates the song in an honest way. When you’re young every moment, big or small, seems like a milestone and seeing it spoken by this young boy makes the words “Please show me how, show me how to get it right” really hit home.
Star Wars vs. Snatch
I’ve yet to see the cinema classic SNATCH. But on a long drive a few days ago, youtube came to the rescue yet again to provide entertainment in the form of brilliantly dubbed videos of Stars Wars scenes with Snatch one-liners. Darth Vader's being the highlight of these videos. Get your google on and get to watching. They’re effing hilarious.
