Throughout it's thirty years Roadrunner Records has been at the forefront of metal and heavy rock music, providing a home and outlet for some of the most significant bands of a generation. It is thus with great pleasure that we have handed over I Like Music to Roadrunner for their Guest Edit of the site.
Track
Artist: Corey Taylor Track: X-M@$ Release: 12th December Label: Roadrunner
Not content with fronting TWO multi-million selling albums, Stone sour and Slipknot front-man Corey Taylor is to release his first solo single this month - X-M@S. “I wrote this song in my kitchen one winter, listening to people bitch about the holidays.” He chuckles, “Personally, I love the holidays, but they seem to bring on severe stress in most people. So, I wrote this in honour of crotchety, drunken bastards who don't know the difference between a yuletide and a toolshed. Plus, I think it's funny.”
Album
Artist: Alter Bridge Album: AB III Release:Out Now Label: Roadrunner
This year has seen a great many great albums from Roadrunner artists but one of the standouts for this year has been Alter Bridge’s AB III; an album that was both a critical and commercial hit - outstripping the first week of sales for their previous album in its first DAY! The reveal of lead track Isolation almost crashed the Roadrunner servers, such was demand, rendering it one of the most visited pages www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk has ever had.
AB III builds on the success of the band’s previous albums - One Day Remains and Blackbird - whilst talking a shift in theme from the first two releases. “This record is definitely a departure from the last two albums in terms of its subject matter.” Comments vocalist Myles Kennedy, “It touches on the thoughts and emotions of someone who has come to question everything that was once regarded as an absolute truth. It’s the realization that everything you once believed in might not exist.” The album does however continue to showcase Alter Bridge’s ability to play and write aggressively while maintaining their signature melodic component. Guitarist Mark Tremonti states, “Melody is still the most important thing for us. There’s no point in being heavy just for the sake of being heavy.”
