Wretch 32

It's been a long time coming, but Wretch 32 has finally claimed his place in the limelight as one of the UK's hottest emcees. To celebrate his ascendance we've invited him to Guest Edit . He's chosen a favourite track, album and video to talk about, telling us about his love for Stone Roses, Kanye West and Take That.

Track
Artist: Stone Roses Track: Fools Gold Release: November 1989 Label: Silvertone

Growing up my dad was a DJ who predominately played reggae music, however this was one indie record that made it into his collection. It is such a cool and funky record with perfect vocals, which allow you to groove to the beat. To this day it still has the same affect on me, which is why I jumped at the chance to sample it.

Album
Artist: Kanye West Album: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Release: November 2010 Label: Mercury Records

Kanye created one of the best cross-genre albums of all time for me. It broadened the boundaries of hip hop by putting together sounds which had no right to go together, but just worked. I find listening to this album inspiring as it shows me that even after your 4th album you consistently improve if you maintain the drive and willingness to be the best.

Video
Artist: Take That Track: Greatest Day Release: November 2008 Label: Polydor

Wow…This video and song made like the world could end at any moment. I feel that the visual perfectly complimented the song's feeling and emotions. I once tweeted about it and recall being called up by a radio station as they were surprised that a rapper could be talking about a man-band, but Take That and Gary Barlow in particular are great musicians.
