Hurricane ChrisHurricane Chris - 51/50 Ratchet
There's a storm brewing in Shreveport, Louisiana. It is a storm that takes the form of a cultural movement destined to alter America's cultural landscape the same way the crunk movement led by Lil' Jon altered pop culture a few years ago. The new movement is called the Ratchet, and has been created by a dynamic new artist aptly named Hurricane Chris. The 18-year-old Shreveport native has been causing quite a commotion stateside since the release of his debut single A Bay Bay.
Over in America, A Bay Bay became the biggest surprise hit of the summer. To date, the full track has sold 415,000 units. The infectious single quickly became a national catchphrase with a peak position of No. 7 and No. 11 on Billboard's Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, respectively.
Hurricane Chris went on to enlist an all star line-up for the A Bay Bay (Ratchet Remix) which included The Game, Baby, Jadakiss, Lil Boosie, and Angie Locc from Lava House.
Every music genre has its landmark moments and Ratchet, with Hurricane Chris is leading the charge. On this debut album 51/50 Ratchet, (which means 101% real) you'll find drum 'n' bass through to Rick James inspired tracks. The 51/50 Ratchet reflects the culture, attitude and swagger of Shreveport.
