On July 4th 2005 Mercury Records/Roc-a-fella are set to release a new single by the critically acclaimed, platinum selling, Grammy award winning rapper Kanye West!
'Diamonds from Sierra Leone' has got off to a flying start both here and in the US. The track was leaked to radio two weeks ago and is currently blasting out of airwaves across the UK.
The single boasts one of the most compelling samples in music history, the legendary 'Diamonds Are Forever' by Shirley Bassey..but with a twist. Kanye takes production to the next level, firmly putting his stamp on this amazing first single. Lyrically, Kanye is spitting them out with his typical brand of razor sharp humour. 'Diamonds from Sierra Leone' tells the story of his first 12 months in the music industry. "Now all I need is ya'll to pronounce my name, is Kanye but some of my plaques still say Kayne!"
The video for the single will be shot in Prague next week, it will be directed by Hype Williams so we can expect nothing short of a masterpiece.
The single is taken from Kanye West's highly anticipated second album, Late Registration, out July 11th. The album follows in the footsteps of 'The College Dropout', his impressive debut release which has sold over 3 million copies worldwide to date.
'Diamonds from Sierra Leone' is followed by a second single on September 19th which features Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx.
