RZA / Killa Kela/ Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip Live Review by Craig Montana

A strange night and bizarre location for the Monday night smack down that was RZA @ the IndigO2 bar (Nr the O2 arena). If I'm honest I was kind of sceptical about the whole affair. It was 4.30pm on the Monday afternoon and I still hadn't sorted a ticket out for what was going be the event of the month..if not the year. Positive thinking would be my saviour. That and the Beatbox maestro- Killa Kela. Kindly providing me with a plus 1 on the heavily named guest list. (Cheers Kela!) So I was blessed. Guest list sorted and armed with the EBS Digicam and a cold can of Red Stripe, I started my mission to O2 arena.

I made it inside the venue with good time..pleasant staff and minimal queuing meant that spirits were high between me and my plus 1 (Joel B, IMR). The venue looked about the size of The Astoria but without the sticky floors and gritty loos. A plush setting indeed for the self proclaimed Abbott of Hip Hop. By 8.30 the spacious venue started to pack out a little with an interesting mix of London cool kids & scensters, student-indie types and straight up rudeboys. The opening warm up act; Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip rushed the large stage with a barrage of sounds and breaks. I'm not really into their music personally, but was impressed by their stage presence and ability to laugh at themselves whilst transforming a fairly 'where's RZA at?' crowd into a passive mass of openness..hard feat! But they did well. Check out their music and future tour dates.
