Swollen Members - Black Magic

Swollen Members - Black Magic

Swollen Members are the 500,000 selling Canadian Juno Award winning hip-hop 3 piece, including Madchild and Prevail with DJ and Producer Rob the Viking.

They release their fifth album, (and first UK release through TVT) 'Black Magic' in January 2007. 'Black Magic' is fuel-injected with passion and marks a triumphant return for Swollen Members. This album is guaranteed to simultaneously rock parties and stimulate minds. Collaborations include: The Alchemist, Everlast, Evidence and Babu (Dilated Peoples), Ghostface Killah, Jacken (Psycho Realm), Casual (Hieroglyphics), DJ Swamp, Mr. Vegas and Planet Asia. Whilst production credits include: The Alchemist (Cypress Hill, Mobb Deep, Nas), Evidence (Dilated Peoples, Linkin Park, Kanye West) Rob the Viking and Squeak E. Clean (Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

While the Members' previous effort, 2003's 'Heavy', was aimed squarely at the pop charts, 'Black Magic' is a focused, brilliantly diverse, set of mature hip-hop that only years of touring and studio sessions could produce. The LP's thumping beats are spiked with classical overtones, and its carefully written, life-soaked raps will appeal to the veteran crew's original fan base. In short, 'Black Magic' will bring down the house.

The first official lead single, produced by Evidence (Dilated Peoples) 'Put Me On', features Everlast on the chorus and reflects on lost love over a painful piano riff. 'Brothers' details the group's internal trials and triumphs, while 'Too Hot' is a funky, roller coaster of a street track, guaranteed to nod heads from coast to coast.

In their home country of Canada, Swollen Members have scooped several awards including the prestigious Juno Award (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy's) winning the 'Best Rap Recording' category three times for 'Balance', 'Bad Dreams' and 'Monsters In The Closet' in 2001, 02 and 03 respectively. They have also scooped 7 video awards on Canada's premier National Video Network 'Much Music' (Canada's equivalent to MTV).

Swollen Members have previously toured with the Black Eyed Peas, Ghostface Killah and Sum41 in addition to sharing bills with Ludacris, Kanye West, Snoop Dog, Linkin Park and Nickelback. This year, they established themselves as a headlining act, as they're currently in the middle of their first US 40 date tour - notching up 25,000 in ticket sales.

To date they have independently sold in excess of 500,000 units globally.
