Tim Westwood chats to I Like Music
ILM: We're being filmed right now as part of the BT Digital Music Awards, for which we're nominated for Best Music Magazine Please feel free to VOTE for us here…online magazines are accessible to all across the world and you don't need a huge warehouse or distribution house or printed version to succeed. What's your view on that?
TIM: That's the most powerful thing in the game man. That accessibility and do it yourself ethic. On Myspace people have their own tracks creating a buzz, they get thousands or millions of downloads, you can put a video you've made on your cell phone I've got a girl showing everyone how to do the Pop Lock n Drop dance which is big in the clubs now. And she's had 200,000 hits on that. It's where we are at right now in this game. Everyone's got their own photo shoots and videos jumping off from their galleries, it's all about doing it yourself man and having the resources to do it. The record industry had such a monopoly on this music industry and no people are getting music from alternative ways. The chipmunk freestyle, they have no profile out there, but they got 200,000 hits on our youtube page (timwestwood TV). That's people responding to what they want, not being dictated to by the record companies. I think this is the revolution which is happening right now.
