Tim Westwood chats to I Like Music
Those records spin in the clubs and, once you've got records in the clubs, that's where you build up strong street support. I think those street artists are very connected to the UK audience and they're doing tremendous work out there and there's an interesting cross-over with the indie crowd embracing those artists. Dizzee Rascal and Lethal Bizzle and Firecamp are being embraced.
The way I see my position now within that, I'm really much closer to the likes of Wiley, Kano, Roll Deep, Bizzle and those artists. I think that's where the energy is…Jamma, MiracleMan, Nasty Jack, Nasty Crew, a lot of them, a lot of creativity is coming out of East London and, one thing that's really interesting is the young'uns, their old school is Dizzee Rascal. They're 14; when they were eight they were listening to Wiley and Dizzee. We had an artist by the name of Chipmunk in and we filmed it and put it up on our YouTube (timwestwood TV), and it's got 120,000 hits, it's the most commented on. Comments you pay attention to. It's got more comments than Kanye West had. It's a lot of energy there. Chipmunk have had a couple of mix CDs out, nothing special and certainly aren't on any record label radar. That YouTube is a monster man; I pay attention to how the videos are performing on there.
