The 24-year old who hails from the colourful back streets of Washington DC was discovered by Mark Ronson in 2007. The Grammy-Award winning producer/writer was so impressed by the East-Coast rapper's laid back flow and skilful wordplay, that he decided to sign him to his own label Allido Records, an imprint of Interscope Records.
Ronson introduced Wale to Lady Gaga who instantly became a fan and proceeded to write the hook for Wale's debut single Chillin, which is available from August 31st 2009. Produced by Cool & Dre the track samples the 1969 Steam hit single Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.
Chillin' is already burning up the UK airwaves via Radio One, 1Xtra and Galaxy. Its catchy, double-dutch playground hook (sung by Gaga) intertwined with Wale's too cool-for-skool delivery makes this a contender for THE hip hop hit of the summer.
This may be the first time many have heard of Wale's talents, but he's already well known at street level. The DC rapper has released some of the most well received mixtapes in recent times including 100 Miles and Running, which featured the hip hop banger W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E a remix of French electro-house stars Justice D.A.N.C.E.
Wale's debut album Attention Deficient drops in late 2009.
