Catherine Feeny - Touch Back Down / Hurricane Glass
A tale of truth misplaced and deception long undetected, Touch Back Down is the first single from Catherine Feeny on the Charisma label, released June 11th 2007.
With a swelling tide of strings, a gliding vocal melody and a creeping dawn of realisation, Touch Back Down is the sound of the truth unravelling. A delicate approach, Feeny's honeycomb vocals and its enveloping Americana, prove a deceptively engaging vehicle for acerbic lyrics and challenging themes.
It's a winning formula exacted throughout her album Hurricane Glass, which is now set for release on June 18th on Tallgrass/Charisma. The album's initial release on Tallgrass last year garnered critical acclaim, and this along with the key synchs for Feeny's song Mr Blue stateside (The OC and the soundtrack of Gwyneth Paltrow movie Running With Scissors) helped bring Feeny to EMI's attention. The album will include a new track and has been re-mastered and re-packaged for this release.
Hurricane Glass is a collection of engagingly crafted and deceptively delicate songs focusing on personal struggles and complex relationships. From the sweet pop of Mr Blue, to the seething No Reply, and mid-west bar room rock of the title track, there is a telling lyric for every engaging hook. Here, big themes are wrapped in perfectly formed songs and given the deftest touches of production.
Feeny has spent the past year touring in support of, amongst others, Martha Wainwright, John Prine, Suzanne Vega and most recently Stereophonic's vocalist Kelly Jones. Her recent headlining show at London's Spitz was a sell out and she followed this with a date at London's Bush Hall on June 5th, ahead of the album's release. Festival appearances throughout the summer include the Wychwood Festival on 3 June and the acoustic stage at Glastonbury on June 23rd.
