John Peel Tribute Single and Album
"John Peel, with his attitude to music did a lot of bands a lot of favours, including us," adds Roger Daltrey. "He was his willing to give his time to find new music and to go out on a limb for it. He used to come to gigs and stand on the side of the stage. In those early days you had to fight for a play on the radio. He was good to us and he was good for music".
The single is being produced by Andy Gill, Founder member and producer of legendary Punk Band Gang of Four.
"Peel was the first DJ to provide a conduit for edgy music in a world attuned to pap," says Gill. "When we were starting out, Radio One and Top of the Pops and the other channels and outlets always went for safe options. Peel relished a bit of controversy. He was always keen on Gang of Four - we did three or four live sessions with him - but his delight in playing us intensified after we walked off Top of the Pops when they tried to censor our lyrics.

There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
