Katie Melua chats to I Like Music
KATIE: I would recommend that they go for an Indie definitely because, the thing with a major label is that, its such a powerful business, and there are so many other artists on there that their focus will be split between hundreds of artists. Whereas, independent labels will usually have about 20 or 30 artists on their roster, depending on the size of it.
It depends on the kind of music you want to do. If you're a serious musician try to know what you want out of yourself and get the music right on your own well before you go to any label. Then you'll have as much creative control. Also ask for as much creative control as you can, but still be perceptive and listen to others and don't let that just be your mum or your friends, let that be industry people. Surround yourself with good people who you trust and are professional and will do their best to get your music heard.

Leon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
